Children's dentistry

Gentle-paced first visits, preventive care and habits that last, for children of all ages.

We recommend a child's first visit around their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. Early visits are short and relaxed: the aim is to make the dentist familiar, check development and give parents practical advice.

As children grow we focus on prevention: fissure sealants, fluoride, diet and brushing guidance, and monitoring how adult teeth are coming through.

Some children are eligible for the Australian Government's Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which covers part or all of the cost of basic dental services. Ask the practice whether it participates and whether your child is eligible.

What a visit involves

A short, no-pressure first visit — a ride in the chair and a count of teeth

Practical advice on brushing, diet and dummies or thumb-sucking

Preventive treatments such as fissure sealants where indicated

Common questions

What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

The CDBS is an Australian Government program that covers part or all of the cost of basic dental services for eligible children. Eligibility depends on age and family payments. We can check this for you before the appointment.

This page is general information only and does not replace an examination. Suitability, risks and fees for any treatment are discussed with you in person before you decide. Individual results vary.
