Root canal treatment
Treatment to save a tooth whose nerve is infected or inflamed.
Root canal (endodontic) treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and seals the root canals, and allows the tooth to be kept rather than extracted.
Modern techniques and local anaesthetic mean the procedure is generally no more uncomfortable than a filling. Treatment is usually completed over one to three visits, and the tooth often needs a crown afterwards.
